The nobility of the textile tradition, nature and contemporary art are the most evident characteristics of Biella and its territory.
Enclosed in the green embrace of the Oasi Zegna and the Parco della Burcina, the city is also the heart of the district that Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour called the ‘Italian Manchester’, dating back to the 18th century: a cultural and intangible knowledge jealously guarded and cultivated, and thanks to which, in 2019, Biella became part of the UNESCO Creative Cities circuit in the ‘Crafts & Folk Art’ category for handicrafts and folk arts.
Just outside Biella stretches an area of astonishing beauty, which is worth discovering at a slow pace, perhaps going along one of the many paths that intersect with the ancient devotional paths, to reach, even on foot or by mountain bike, Sordevolo, the alpine village that, for more than two centuries, every five years stages a grandiose choral representation of the Passion of Christ, or the Sacro Monte di Oropa, part of the Sacri Monti complex of the Piedmont UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important Marian shrines in Europe dedicated to the cult of the Black Madonna.
